Lots of hard work and effort can go into building a treehouse. Once it’s finished you want it to last as long as possible. That’s why it’s so important to weatherproof your creation so that you and your children can enjoy it for many years to come.

Here are some things you can do to weatherproof your treehouse.

  1. A good roof is important and protects the whole treehouse from rain and snow. Ensure that your roof has a steep pitch and a generous overhang. This will keep the rain away from the treehouse walls.
  2. Is the tree trunk running through your treehouse? While it might look cool to have a branch running through the house it could also damage the structure as the tree branches move and flex. Designing the house in a way that protects the walls and base is essential.
  3. Protecting the wood. It’s important to protect your treehouse from the weather. Apply a penetrating oil finish to protect your treehouse against moisture any damage or other weathering. If you want to paint the treehouse use a color stain. Sticking with a neutral shade or two colors to create a stunning stripe effect is a great idea.

When deciding to build a treehouse be sure that you consider the maintenance so your treehouse lasts for many years to come.
